Humana, the Clinton Foundation and the PGA TOUR have a shared interest in taking on today’s health and wellness challenges by raising awareness and charitable dollars through the new Humana Challenge PGA TOUR event. The tournament will “challenge” participating pros, amateurs, celebrities, volunteers, spectators and millions of viewers around the country to better understand their role in their own well-being and to take steps to improve their health. To this end the tournament will include healthy concession options, pedometers for measuring steps taken and calories burned, a family fit area, and on-course wellness activities. Another key component of the week will be a first-ever national conference focused on health and well-being hosted by the Clinton Foundation.

The full name of the tournament is Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation, and this is the PGA Tour event that traditionally was called the Bob Hope Classic. In fact, the name "Humana Challenge" is new for 2012.

Also new in 2012 are some format changes. The tournament will reduce from its traditional five rounds to four rounds. It will remain a pro-am, with amateurs playing along with the pros for the first three rounds.

Legendary entertainer Bob Hope's name was added to the tournament in 1965, and continued to be part of the tournament name even after Hope's death in 2003. In 2012, Hope's name won't be part of the event title, but the winner will receive the Bob Hope Trophy.

The Humana Challenge is scheduled for Jan. 16-22. For the third consecutive year, the $5.6 million tournament will take place entirely within La Quinta, where players will compete for a $1.008 million winner’s check, the largest in event history, and the new Bob Hope Memorial Trophy, at La Quinta Country Club and the Palmer and Nicklaus Private Courses at PGA WEST.
